Well, I've found so many defensive talents that had been probably designed for PvP but still very good that I got a question now: Is there a build for tanking mage (like tanking lock)? Well, locks can much easier produce aggro and have less problems with mana but still.
So, how I see this build and tanking process:
The mage tank constantly spams his Improved Arcane Missiles (if his target isn't immune or high resistible to arcane
of course) and if we decided to give him Improved Blink he also blinks on CD to raise his survivability.
Our mage also has most of anti-magic and anti-physical talents like Magic Absorption, Frost Warding, Magic Attunement, Improved Mana Shield, Arcane Fortitude, etc and is wearing an appropriate shield buff and resistance gear.
His only attacking spell is Arcane Missiles which he must spent most points and gear into to keep aggro.
Though there's still a problem with
holding it and I'm not sure how to solve (surely I've chosen most of the spell damage raising talents but its not enough versus our DD version).
And, of course, mana. Again, most of mana-conversing talents available but not enough... though if our mage is just off-tanking some annoying caster add at Big Bad Boss it may have some profit or not?
And yes, I've never leveled a mage higher than 38 lvl but still very curious, I'd
love it.no. your armor is too sucky.
you can not, will not, and never will be a tank as a mage.
will u do better against other casters, yes. will u live if u get pimp slaped full on, no.
nice try though. you will be able to own other mages and locks though.Yes as long as you have the stamina for it and the bos doesnt use melee you'll be a fine tank. Getting enough hp as a mage is hard though but a rogue can tank illidan(part of it at least) and other melee bosses so you should be fine on casterbosses.well crit a few times and you'll hold all the aggro but damn thats gonna suck for the healer who is keeping you alive...
i would put the mage as just about the last character class i would want tanking even if it as an off-tank
most of the time
i find an arms warrior, ret pallie... i suppose mail or leather COULD do it but your making it difficult for the healermost of the time i find an arms warrior, ret pallie... i suppose mail or leather COULD do it but your making it difficult for the healer
Again, I'm taliking about casting bosses, that rarely or never land a physical blow. Of course, mage tanking melee boss is rudicilous.I would like to see a mage tanking spec if some one could post one please. I have never really thought of a mage as a tank, and would like to see how it's done.Yes, but for other casters only. In the High King Mulgore fight in Gruuls, you need a mage tank for one of the casters (I have done it many time before). There is no mage tank spec except for any talents that reduce damage taken.
With crushing blows removed, if you have alot of healers SPAMMING heals on you, then a few bosses are mage tankable but you better have full Arena with all stam gems.Well you can tank instances as a mage however your only limited to low level ones heroic out of the question.
Me and a friend actually 2 man some instances Underbog, Slavepens, Ramparts. Yea they are easy but for a mage to tank them is neat to do.
who helps me is another mage of course.
I am currently Full arcane specced, i switched around a lot of talents but i think i finally found a few spells that is really decent. (In beginning i was sorta ehhhh mages cant tank thats a stupid idea, but its not impossible.)
If you go full arcane talents you can mage tank, theres one talent you should not get just because you will not
able to hold threat (which is the 40%% reduced threat with arcane spells) you can grab it if you want but fire mages have atleast 32%% crit chance with your focus mind.
The improved mana shield where it takes less amount mana poer point of damage and the increased damage by absorbing. Talents will help out a lot. Those two talents helped me in raids where i abosrbed about 3k damage and turne
