I am looking into a spellcaster for BG and Arena and would like to know which is the best in terms of damage dealt and surviveability...I am not really interested in what I can do at lvl 70 because that will take me quite a while to get to. Im looking at what I can do a lvl 10-19. I really like BG and would like to be successful at it, but have been
told time and time again that mages suck at BG. Can someone please tell me why they say this?
Thx alot guys.Depends on your skill level...
*Preist will be useless at lower levels.|
*Mages are fun to level, can own in BGs.
*Locks are good....
MAGE FTWIn the 10-19 level range, between a priest and a mage, I would choose mage. Not much in the way of specialty yet, so priests wont do too much damage or
heal for too much, unless you have them UBER twinked. And while Mages are the same talent wise (not much in them), they still have starter talents that, depending which spec, will make you hit more, do more damage over time on crits, or boost crit damage.
Overall, I would say mages are better in the 10-19 range. Although you'll want to roll Alliance if you do BGs in that range and want to
actually win. Alliance does TONS of twinkage then, and totally owns the 19 BGs.
Oh and whoever told you mages were horrible in BGs, obviously does not know how to play one.Agreed. Go with the mage;) At 10-19 they're both support classes of fairly equal merit...both can be crucial in helping an fc get across midfield with psychic scream and heals, or with frost nova and sheep respectively, but at 20-29 frost mages become one of the best flag carrying classes as with frost nova and frost bite melee classes will struggle to stop you and with blink you can travel faster than most other classes...only rogues, shamans and druids can compare and maybe hunters if they have a chance to use aspect of the cheetah without being dazed.
to why you've been told that mages suck at bg's...well thats probably because mages are a fragile class and especially at
low levels with all the twinked rogues and hunters sometimes you'll get killed before you can react unless you're fairly twinked yourself. Its debatable as to whether a priest would survive those situations either.
In the end its down to what you think you'll enjoy most...being fragile, but capable of doing very decent damage on your own...or having better survivability but being more dependant on others doing decent damage while you focus on keeping them alive. Also to bear in mind is the fact that in sensible pvpers minds the priest is always the prime target;PI'd say mage, because at lower levels, dps is just nonexistent on a Priest. If you go for the Mage, I'd recommend getting good Stamina gear so you can survive in a fight without healer support. The most important thing to remember with both classes is that they can't continue fighting for a long duration of time because they are at the mercy of mana. I'd go Stam>Int>Spirit for a pretty well rounded Mage.i'd definately say mage for the lower bracket.
at first mage seems the ideal choice, but maybe arcane with 5/5 in imp missiles would be great at that level, it depends what level you get ice lance at, it's been a loong time since i was under 70..Yeah totally do mage at 10-19. mages
are awesome with sweet dps... P.S. no don't go for spirit at all, it does nothing for a mage. Go stam intell for BGs.dude you gotta go with a frost mage. shadow priests are good in pvp but looking for pve then no wayHate to disagree. I think Priests are very hard to kill even at that level. 10-19 I did very well with my priest. 29 I liked my mage better. 39-49 -
Priest better. I level much faster with my mage, but my priest can really survive. Now remember, no super twinking either, very similar gear. I do a lot of BG's - Priests are essential to winning. At 29 i was the flag carrier and could hardly be stopped. At 39 up that changed. At 59 DK's own us and my understanding is its that way all the way to 80. In arena's Prie
