Fighting Warlocks PVP Discussion2009-04-07 00:00:00This thread will be for questions about fighting locks.
Looking for a good discussion, or a very experienced player to give a guide on how to fight them.
Its usually given that we cannot beat locks, but we can fight back and hope that they screw up.. i will always be mage FTW letsget this started,
When do YOU guys use CS.I think that you should freeze the demon, usually a melee fighter, in place with Frost Nova. Then you should use Counter-spell on the warlock when he is about to cast something. Then go in with a bunch of attacks, hoping you win.and those damn DOTs............ugh locks. The best I can try to do is first throw up my combustion. if hes gonna fear me throw in a counterspell. hit him with dragons breath and when he's dazed sheep him. while hes sheeped I charge up pyroblast and then hit hit him with everything I've got.Ok guys, I have a 70 lock and also a 16 mage i've been working with and just wanted to throw in some weaknesses for a lock i guess.
First off, in PVP, fear has a diminishing return. With the low amount of HP's that a mage has this probably won't matter though but you should have at least 1, possibly two ways to break fear if you are feared. #1 being a trinket. #2, if...
Can a mage tank or off-tank caster bosses/mobs?2009-04-07 00:00:00Well, I've found so many defensive talents that had been probably designed for PvP but still very good that I got a question now: Is there a build for tanking mage (like tanking lock)? Well, locks can much easier produce aggro and have less problems with mana but still.
So, how I see this build and tanking process:
The mage tank constantly spams his Improved Arcane Missiles (if his target isn't immune or high resistible to arcane of course) and if we decided to give him Improved Blink he also blinks on CD to raise his survivability.
Our mage also has most of anti-magic and anti-physical talents like Magic Absorption, Frost Warding, Magic Attunement, Improved Mana Shield, Arcane Fortitude, etc and is wearing an appropriate shield buff and resistance gear.
His only attacking spell is Arcane Missiles which he must spent most points and gear into to keep aggro.
Though there's still a problem with holding it and I'm not sure how to solve (surely I've chosen most of the spell damage raising talents but its not enough versus our DD version).
And, of course, mana. Again, most of mana-conversing talents available but not enough... though if our mage is just off-tanking some annoying caster add at Big Bad Bos...
Priest vs Mage BG2009-04-07 00:00:00I am looking into a spellcaster for BG and Arena and would like to know which is the best in terms of damage dealt and surviveability...I am not really interested in what I can do at lvl 70 because that will take me quite a while to get to. Im looking at what I can do a lvl 10-19. I really like BG and would like to be successful at it, but have been told time and time again that mages suck at BG. Can someone please tell me why they say this?

MAGE FTWIn the 10-19 level range, between a priest and a mage, I would choose mage. Not much in the way of specialty yet, so priests wont do too much damage or heal for too much, unless you have them UBER twinked. And while Mages are the same talent wise (not much in them), they still have starter talents that, depending which spec, will make you hit more, do more damage over time on crits, or boost crit damage.
Overall, I would say mages are better in the 10-19 range. Although you'll want to roll Alliance if you do BGs in that range and want to actually win. Alliance does TONS of twinkage then, and totally owns th...

1.Do you run the other way on your mount b/c you no he wont catch you?
2.Do you stay were you are and spam arcane explosion and hope it hits him and he/she pops up
so wot would you do in this situation?
answers are welcomei use to spam arcane exposion when i hear a rogue going in stealth. when he becomes visible i always try not to get stunned (which sometimes is quite hard) and just try to do as much damage as i can.
i know its really hard to beat a rogue when you are mage, because rogues are magekillers, but sometimes i manage to kill one of them.

Then spam Arcane Explosion until I know I'm 'safe', but you see, that's when the Rogue Saps me and then it's all over, cuz the Horde toon near me is oblivious to what's going on with me until it's too late.

Arcane talents - A joke?2009-04-07 00:00:00Have you even heard of arcane barrage? How is an instant spell that takes 85%% spell damage coefficient poor? At level 80 that crits easily for an instant 6k.
I understand if you spam arcane blast (in PvE) you're going to run out of mana very fast due to the effect, however if you regulate Arca...
